What is the next big thing in human-computer interfaces?

The flim Minority Report, released in 2002, sparked the imagination of many students and researchers studying human-computer interfaces. I was also one of them. John Underkoffler, one of the science advisors of the movie, designed a gesture-controlled user interface, and Tom Cruise used it to search in the film. Since then, I have dreamed of trying to implement this technology.

In class of Sensor and Actuator Engineering in 2006, two colleagues and I designed and implemented an augmented glove that can recognize user’s hand gestures by using two flex sensors and two gyro sensors. A PC application gathered real-time sensing data through Bluetooth communication and fused the two different sensing data to control a mouse cursor.
